The tour is East to West so with westerly wind it is no effort!
I did this tour on Friday 20th November 2020. The air temperature was 7 Grad and the wind was 14 Km/hr blowing from the west.
The wind made the tour so easy as it was behind me most of the way.
I wore a Neoprene with booties and was too warm.The water was very flat with only a few small waves on the Regattastrecke. But like I say, if you have a westerly wind it is a dream tour as the wind will do the work for you!
The entry point is a pontoon near the Schleuse. Then paddle around the bend to the Regattestrecke. The wind was stronger here but was directly behind me and it was a pleasure to be pushed along by the wind with minimal effort. There was one rowing boat and a sailing boat on the water - apart from that I was alone.
Then you enter the narrow channel of the Dove Elbe. Wild birds, cows and gardens which are now deserted for the winter. I didn't see another person for the whole tour.
Reitbrooker Mühle is a photo opportunity as was Krapphofschleuse. I sat in the Schleuse for 20 minutes and drank my tea and had a sandwich. The sun was starting to set and the light shined straight through the schleuse.
After the Schleuse the water becomes very shallow. Maybe 15 -20 cm deep. At one point I had to get off my board and push it for about 5 meters to deeper water.
But then it is easy sailing all the way to Bergedorf.
Hinweise & Tipps: The entry point at Tatenberger Schleuse is a small pontoon about 100 meters from the Schleuse. It is on the north bank of the river. The height of the pontoon is about 70 or 80 cm to the water so you need to be strong enough to place your SUP into the water. The exit point is in Bergedorf city centre and there is also a pontoon. It is very easy to get out of the water there. It is then a 5 minute walk to the train station.
